Getting ready for CTS – news and updates

Dear CTS delegates,

The fifth CTS conference is almost upon us – we hope that just like us, you are looking forward to coming to sunny Sarajevo. We have some news for you about the programme, the papers, transport to the venue, trips and visits, and optional activities you can sign up for.

  • An outline programme is now available on http://cts.som.surrey.ac.uk/key-dates/. We are putting together the schedules for presentations as we speak – but as we are still registering delegates on a daily basis, the final version will only be available one week before the event.  If you are presenting a paper, please be advised that you will have 15 minutes to present, and there will be 5 minutes for questions. .Powerpoint facilities will be available – please just bring your presentation on a USB if you wish to make use of them.

  • Transport to the venue: We are currently in talks with a local taxi company to provide transport from Sarajevo airport to Hotel Europe (the other two hotels are 2 minutes away in the same street) on June 25th. If you arrive earlier, please be advised that there is a taxi rank outside the airport – Hotel Europe is very well-known. We will update you on transport issues in the next email alert.

  • Trips and visits: Friday 28th is our ‘Tourism in Action’ day. There will be 5 excursions to choose from – 1 full day and 4 half day ones (3 in the morning and 1  in the afternoon). These are included in the registration fee. We will provide more details about the different options in the next email, but we can already share that they range from standard walking tours around Sarajevo to a bus tour to a typical Bosnian village. Three of the tours are provided by local NGOs or social enterprises.

  • Optional extra activities: We are also pleased to offer you two additional activities – these are not included in the conference fee.
  • 25/06 Vegetarian organic dinner at Ecofutura: After the welcome reception delegates can choose to have dinner in the city (there are plenty of restaurants to choose from right by the hotel). If however you’d like to explore the region a bit more, we can offer a dinner in Ecofutura, an ecological entertainment and event centre with an eco-village, which produces its own organic food. (http://www.ecotourism.ba/). A bus will leave the hotel at 7 pm.  The cost for this trip (including dinner and transport) is €25 per person. If you would like to sign up, please email cts@surrey.ac.uk.
  • Extending your trip: We have teamed up with Green Visions to offer delegates three optional group tours around Bosnia and Herzegovina. Green Visions is a socially responsible travel company in Sarajevo. From their first trip to Prenj in August 2000, they have operated as a social business, committed to the communities and the environment. More information can be found here – one delegate has already expressed an interest in the 3 day tour: http://cts.som.surrey.ac.uk/2013/05/19/extending-your-trip/

More information to follow next week… We look forward to welcoming you at CTS V!
